Let's Talk - Electrolytes

Electrolytes aren't just for athletes—they're essential for everyone.

Think of them as the "spark plugs" that help your body function. They help your body actually absorb and use the water you drink, support muscle function (including your heart!), move nutrients into your cells, aid healthy digestion, and even play a role in balanced energy and blood sugar.

If you've ever experienced muscle cramps, fatigue, headaches, dizziness, bloating, or felt like you're drinking plenty of water but still don't feel hydrated, low electrolytes could be part of the picture.

Water Alone Isn't Always Enough

Have you ever felt like you're drinking water all day long but you're still thirsty, tired, or constantly running to the bathroom?

That's because water needs electrolytes to actually be absorbed and used by your cells. Without enough electrolytes, much of that water simply passes through your body instead of hydrating you where it matters most.

Here are some "ratios" you should look for in your electrolyte products!

Brands I do NOT recommend

• Liquid IV: HERE - Even just looking at the ingredient label, the first two ingredients are "Cane Sugar, Dextrose..." - aka two different forms of sugar. It also does not contain ANY Calcium OR Magnesium.

• Gatorade: HERE - Marketed as "zero sugar", these tablets ALSO do not contain ANY Calcium OR Magnesium. There are three forms of SUGAR on the ingredients list that are disguised...can you spot them?? (Answer: Sorbitol, Maltodextrin, & Sucralose).

• Zip Fizz: HERE - Unfortunately, these are readily available at convenience stores and Costco! The ingredient list on these is far too long (maltodextrin, silica, sucralose, dl-alpha-tocopheryl acetate, grape seed extract, etc.). Also, if you workout / sweat quite a bit, there's only 70mg of sodium in here - you're gonna need way more than this!
