As we know, our bodies did not miraculously appear out of thin air. They are built on physiological systems, operated by organs that were built from tissues, that were built from cells, that were built from the simple chemicals like oxygen, hydrogen, and carbon (Belan, 2022). These same basic chemicals also make up this lovely planet on which we dwell called earth.
As living creatures, we literally consume our ecosystem and form ourselves out of it.
We must eat and, most importantly, adequately absorb these elements of the earth to continue fueling and nourishing these physical bodies. All nutrients – from the sandwich we had at lunch to our morning cup of tea - provide the energy we need to move, restore, regenerate, and heal.
Why consume "in season" foods?
- You honor earth’s cycle
- Fruits & veggies that are in season are the most abundant, so – therefore – they are most likely going to be the least expensive (macro-economically).
- The soil & landscape will naturally dictate what is in season so you are adequately preparing your body with the necessary nutrients for that upcoming season. This is SO cool.
FOR EXAMPLE: Produce considered "in season" during Autumn are pumpkins, oranges, squash – so that’s when you should be eating that stuff. You’re preparing yourself to get through the winter to build your stores of beta keratin (necessary for eye sight and healthy, strong, durable skin) and vitamin A (immunity during cold winter months).
