If you're following along on Instagram, you've probably noticed I've been posting a lot about making liver meatballs and taking liver / organ supplements every morning. More specificaly, I've been eating “ancestral blend” uses the beef, the liver, and the heart to create a blend that is unsurpassable in vitamins and minerals. I've also been taking a multi-organ supplement that contains six essential glandulars in one multi-organ blend: Thymus, Spleen, Liver, Pancreas, Heart, and Kidney.
GLANDULAR THERAPY
A little thing called “Glandular therapy” is what intrigues me most with this topic. This “dates back thousands of years, being used by the ancient Hindus, Egyptians, and Greeks. In traditional cultures, people who were sick were given liver to eat; those with weak hearts were given heart to eat; iron-deficiency anemia was treated by giving bone marrow extract; desiccated thyroid was and is still given by many physicians.” - Perfect Supplements …this “treat liver with liver” or “heart with heart” approach is genius, regenerative, and resourceful….it’s also painfully lacking in our current diets!
What I am learning about cardiovascular health, and its relationship to red meat, is quite interesting — and has encouraged me to challenge the main stream/diet culture narratives 🫶🏽 Diets are constantly in flux and are called "fad" diets for a reason. "FAD" lierally means:
an intense and widely shared enthusiasm for something, especially one that is short-lived and without basis in the object's qualities; a craze:
Cardiovascular health, of course, has many contributing inputs and factors… But what I am learning is that there is MUCH more to the story than simply your cholesterol level …and we could benefit from taking a look at peoples’ vitamin and mineral balances (e.g., deficiencies or excess levels).
Minerals are constantly performing a delicate dance to maintain homeostasis. Not only with one another, but with hormones, vitamins, and other compounds - like the acid in your stomach.
Mineral imbalances can be a result of digestion issues such as malabsorption, inappropriate usage of fatty acids from vitamin D deficiencies, or even hormone imbalances throughout the body that are busy trying to tackle other assignments - like regulating blood sugar.
ABOUT THE ORGANS
Heart is packed with Co enzyme 10 (CoQ10), kidney to provide tons of micronutrients, pancreas supplying natural digestive enzymes, liver a metabolic aid, spleen packed with rich iron sources, and the thymus is a key immunity booster (+very difficult to find in the diet!).
When selecting BOTH meat source and supplements, it's always important to always look for grass fed / grass finished.
The @Perfect Supplements website says it best:
Glands are nutrient rich and a concentrated source of building blocks for hormone production, enzymes and other active components that are essential for normal biological functions.
Use of glandular products by natural health practitioners follows the principal that nutrients, enzymes, and other active factors in the gland are supplementing those that may be missing, depleted or otherwise physiologically compromised in the target organ system.
I cannot recommend the brand "Force of Nature" enough! Their top best blends are the ground ancestral blend bison and their Ancestral beef mix 🫶🏽
