BODY'S MAIN GOAL: STAY ALIVE
Shivering is like our body's way of trying to stay warm when it gets too cold...AKA stay alive at all costs. It's like an automatic response to cold temperatures.
Inside our brains, there's a special part called the hypothalamus that acts like a thermostat for our body. It wants to keep our temperature just right.
BRAIN ORDERS OUR MUSCLES AROUND 🫡
When it senses that we're getting too cold, it does something clever. It tells our muscles to tense up and shake (that's the shivering part).
When our muscles shake or shiver, they generate heat. It's like they're working extra hard to warm us up, like when you rub your hands together to make them warm.
So, the shivering is our body's way of making more heat to try and bring our temperature back to a comfortable level.
Think of it as your body's little shiver-dance to stay cozy when things get chilly!
